Strengthening District Federation and Training on Advocacy Held for CBO Leaders in Welipitiya


On 30th June 2025, a combined program focusing on the strengthening of the District Federation of Matara (Project 1047) and training on advocacy and lobbying (Project 3067) was conducted for Community-Based Organization (CBO) leaders in Welipitiya Division. The program targeted leaders from 2023 to 2025, aiming to enhance their skills in organizational development and effective community advocacy.

Key participants included Mrs. Wasanthi, Mrs. Nanayakkara, Mrs. Sumudu, and Mrs. Chamila, supported by agricultural research and production assistants Mr. Cyril and Mr. Hisham. The session was coordinated by Mr. Rushmore Ferdinandz, with field officer Ms. Nayanathara and volunteer Ms. Ramani providing additional support.

The training covered essential topics such as policy engagement, lobbying strategies, and strengthening leadership capacities to improve the effectiveness of CBOs in driving food security initiatives. This effort aligns with the broader goals of the Food Security Project to empower grassroots leaders and strengthen community participation in sustainable development.
