A press conference of Civil Society Organization (CSO) forum was organized on 14th September 2022 at Deniaya Codecep center to shed light on the long standing issues of plantation people.
Under the project LLPP – Lighting Life of Plantation People, selected 15 students from all over southern province were given scholarship in order to increase the number of university entrance from the plantation community.
Caritas Sri Lanka initiated the above Scholarship Programme funded by DFCC Bank in Sri Lanka. It was started from 1st October 2020 and continue for 05 years on yearly-basis intervention and result-based continuation.
The project goal is “the youth of low-income and marginalized families are assisted with educational support to enable them to continue education without interruption and achieve good grades”.
Caritas SED Galle selected 28 students from poor and vulnerable families with high educational skills and good performance. Accordingly one student from each Parish recommended by the Parish Priest and the rest of the students from the community were identified using a selection criteria.
The students opened Bank Accounts with DFCC Bank Branches as required and were issued with Bank Pass Books and ATM Cards. Each month Caritas SED Galle arranges to deposit scholarship funds into their Bank Accounts. There are 28 such SL-DFCC scholarship students who are assisted to continue their education. Following are the scholarship recipients and the monthly scholarships funds disbursed:
Provided Medical & Education aid for 75 selected peoples at CoDeSeP. This aid is especially for those who are affected by present economic crisis of the country.
Among them there were 25 medical assistances for those who are affected by non-communicable diseases like Cancer, Kidney disease, heart diseases and 50 Education aids for the students from the low income families. This was funded by Caritas Sri Lanka under the Disaster Risk Reduction project.
