  1. Food Security Program: “Improving Rural Livelihood, Enhancing Food Security, Building Climate Resilience in Sri Lanka” Project funded by Caritas Norway.

 Locations: Three districts of Galle, Matara and Hambantota

Activities:

  • Community mobilization(Selection of vulnerable farmer families)
  • Establish home gardens
  • Address needs /rights and promoting food security
  • Introduce nutritionally balanced diets,
  • adaptation to climate change
  • Nutrition programs
  • Advocacy and Lobbying
  • Capacity building of farmers
  • Marketing/marketing linkages, promoting livestock
  • Establish village level demonstration farms and village knowledge centres

 

  1. Empowered Women – Peaceful Communities Through a Family-Centered Approach Project (funded by Misereor – Germany)   

 Locations: Kaluwella, Deniyaya, Matara

Activities:

  • Conduct a baseline survey to identify beneficiaries in 3 villages
  • Family based mental health and wellbeing sessions
  • Sessions for women trauma and healing
  • Awareness on human rights/citizenship
  • Workshop for social media
  • Formation of women self-help groups
  • Training on children on peace building and conflict resolution
  • Inter-religious dialogue
  • Formation of a DC level Peace Forum

 

  1. Empowering Green Gold Harvesters to acquire rightful gains for Plantation Communities(funded by Misereor – Germany)

Locations (Panilkanda (Kolonna DS Division) and Talgaswela)

Activities:

  • Form and capacitate Vigilant Groups, Self-help Groups/CBOs, CDF
  • Increase household income from home gardening
  • Attention on children education and skill training of youth
  • Prepare and train communities to face disasters
  • Work together with Estate Management and Govt officials to attend to needs of communities
  1. Improved Households: Fostering secure sustainable livelihoods and nourishing environments for families (OBOS) funded by Caritas South Korea

Locations (Dabarella, Pallemalala in Hambantota District)

Activities:

  • Provide basic training on Climate Smart Agricultural Practices
  • Facilitate exposure visits to learn climate smart agricultural plots
  • Provide basic inputs to motivate (CSAP) adaptation
  • Establish climate smart agricultural plots
  • Identify MSMEs (Medium Scale Micro Enterprises and support
  • Develop Business Plans for MSMEs and support them based on business plans
  1. Stepping Stones to Safeguarding Sri Lanka’s Natural Environment (SSEP) Project (funded by Misereor – Germany)   

Location:          Hiniduma area (Thawalama DS Division)

Activities:

  • Farmers to adapt to climate smart agricultural  practices
  • Selected farmers trained on climate smart agricultural practices and water management techniques
  • Arrange exposure visit to climate smart agricultural plots
  • Establish demonstration climate smart agricultural plots
  • Enhance community resilience and economic sustainability through village groups and small enterprises
  • Conduct workshops on alternative income generating activities
  • Organize community forums and networking events for knowledge exchange
  • Establish partnerships with local organizations & stakeholders
  • Create online and off line platforms for sharing best practices & success stories
  • Advocacy programs to address identified environmental issues
  • Celebrate World Environmental Day

Locations: 17 Parishes in the Diocese of Galle

Activities:

  • Enhancement of livelihood facilities
  • Enhancement of Education
  • Enhancement of Health and Sanitation
  1. Caritas Sri Lanka-DFCC Bank Scholarship Programme ) funded by DFCC Bank
  • 28 poor and vulnerable students have been selected from Parishes/villages
  • They are provided with educational facilities to continue their education.
