Youth and Women in Jadura Empowered Through Mushroom Cultivation Training Under Food Security Project

A capacity-building program aimed at enhancing income generation opportunities for youth and women was conducted on 5th December 2025 in Jadura, Hambantota, under the Food Security Project.

The training focused on mushroom cultivation, an increasingly popular and profitable income-generating activity for rural communities. Selected Community-Based Organization (CBO) members participated in the session, gaining practical knowledge on the full cultivation process—from substrate preparation and spawning to harvesting and marketing.

Through hands-on demonstrations and expert guidance, participants learned how to establish small-scale mushroom units and maintain them as sustainable livelihood ventures. The program emphasized low-cost techniques, resource efficiency, and market demand, empowering households to strengthen their economic resilience.

This initiative is part of ongoing efforts to build the capacity of local communities, promote diversified income sources, and enhance long-term food security in the Hambantota district.
