Welipitiya Mothers Receive Vital Nutrition Training for Child Health

 

Munamalpe, Welipitiya, Matara District – On June 5th, 2025, mothers of children attending Shilpa Pre-school participated in a crucial training program focused on nutrition and food security. The initiative, aimed at empowering mothers with knowledge to improve their children’s health, was well-received by the local community.

The comprehensive session was led by Mrs. Gayani Malkanthi, a Community Health Medical Officer from the Welipitiya Division of the Department of Ayurveda, who served as the primary resource person. Her expertise provided invaluable insights into healthy eating practices and their direct impact on early childhood development.

The training saw active participation from mothers of pre-school children, as well as the dedicated pre-school teachers. Also in attendance were key individuals from relevant government and non-governmental organizations: Mrs. W. Nandani, a Development Officer from the Ministry of Indigenous Medicine; Mrs. Chandima, a Development Officer specializing in Early Childhood; and Mrs. Chamila Priyadarshani, an Agriculture Research Production Assistant, who also serves as a Field Officer and Volunteer for Caritas SED Galle.

This collaborative effort highlights a commitment to enhancing food security and nutritional well-being within the community, ensuring a healthier future for the children of Munamalpe.
