Munamalpe, Welipitiya, Matara – In a vibrant celebration of World Environment Day on June 5th, 2025, Shilpa Preschool in Munamalpe hosted an engaging awareness program on pot cultivation and vegetable planting for its children and their mothers. The event aimed to instill environmental consciousness and practical gardening skills from a young age.
The hands-on session provided valuable insights into sustainable gardening practices, even in limited spaces. The program was expertly led by Mr. Indika Priyadarshana, who served as the resource person, guiding participants through the techniques of successful pot cultivation and vegetable planting.
The initiative saw enthusiastic participation from the children and mothers of Shilpa Preschool. Also present were several key community figures and officials, underscoring the collaborative nature of the event: Mr. Shantha, the Administrative Grama Niladhari for the Welipitiya Division; Mrs. Nirosha, Development Officer for Child Rights Promotion; Mrs. Chandima, Development Officer for Early Childhood Development; Mrs. Chamila Priyadarshani, Agricultural Research and Production Assistant; and Mrs. Chintha, Probation Officer. The pre-school teachers, along with a Field Officer and Volunteer from Caritas SED Galle, also joined the celebration, highlighting the broad support for environmental education within the community.
This program served as a wonderful opportunity to foster a love for nature and encourage sustainable living practices among the youngest members of the community and their families.
