Rahula School, Opatha Develops Home Garden under Food Security Project

On 27 June 2025, Rahula School in Opatha successfully established a school home garden as part of the Food Security Project. This initiative aims to promote sustainable agriculture practices among students while enhancing food security and nutrition at the community level.

The project involved preparing the land, planting a variety of vegetables and herbs, and training students and teachers in home gardening techniques. By learning practical, eco-friendly cultivation methods, students gain valuable skills that they can apply at home and share within their communities.

The school home garden initiative is part of wider efforts to encourage self-reliance, improve dietary diversity, and build awareness of sustainable food production practices among the younger generation. The Food Security Project continues to support similar programs across the region to strengthen community resilience and reduce food insecurity.
