A capacity-building programme on carbon measurement and carbon market opportunities was successfully conducted for programme staff and smallholder farmers (SHFs) under the Food Security Project. The session was led by the project Agronomist, with active participation from the MEAL Officer, Project Coordinator, Field Officer, and staff members of SED Galle.
The training aimed to enhance participants’ understanding of carbon assessment methods, climate-smart agricultural practices, and the growing potential of carbon markets for smallholder communities. Attendees were introduced to practical techniques for measuring carbon sequestration in agricultural systems, as well as strategies to integrate climate-friendly approaches into their ongoing farming activities.
The session also highlighted how smallholder farmers can benefit from emerging carbon market mechanisms, strengthening both environmental sustainability and livelihood resilience.
Organizers emphasized that improved knowledge of carbon monitoring and market linkages is essential for future-oriented agriculture and long-term community development.
