A special awareness program on Land Literacy and Legal Rights was conducted on 27 June 2025 for Community-Based Organization (CBO) members in the Galle District, as part of the ongoing Food Security Project. The initiative aimed to equip community members with essential knowledge about land laws, ownership processes, and legal documentation to support secure and sustainable land use.
The session was led by Mr. Chameera Ekanayake, Land Officer, along with officers from the Land Division of the Divisional Secretariat Office, Labuduwa. Their presentations covered critical topics such as land registration, permits, dispute resolution, and land inheritance procedures.
Supporting participation came from the Grama Niladari of Thunhiripana and the Agricultural Research and Production Assistant of Dangedara, who contributed valuable insights relevant to local land and agricultural issues.
This program served as a vital step toward empowering grassroots communities to understand and protect their land rights, enabling more secure livelihoods and effective participation in development and food security initiatives.
