Food Security Project Staff Strengthened Through Carbon Measurement and Market Capacity-Building Programme

Welipitiya — November 21, 2025
A comprehensive training programme on mapping potential farm products, developing value chains, and enhancing product development was conducted for selected CBO members in the Welipitiya Division under the Food Security Project.

The session was facilitated by Mr. Prasanga, Science and Technology Officer from the Vidatha Centre, Welipitiya, who provided hands-on guidance on identifying viable products, improving production methods, and developing market-ready items. Additional technical support was given by Mrs. Nanayakkara and Mrs. Chamila, Agricultural Research & Production Assistants.

The Field Officer and volunteer team from Caritas SED Galle also supported the program, ensuring smooth coordination and farmer engagement. Participants learned practical approaches to value chain enhancement, product innovation, and market competitiveness—key steps toward improving rural livelihoods.

Organizers reaffirmed that building farmer capacity is essential for strengthening local economies and promoting sustainable agricultural development.
