A significant step toward enhancing local food security was taken as fingerlings were successfully stocked in the ponds and seasonal tanks of Karagahawala under the ongoing Food Security Project. The initiative was carried out with the support of Fisheries Officer Yasalal Priyantha, community volunteer Chandrasena, and local residents.

The stocking program aims to increase freshwater fish production in rural communities, providing an affordable protein source while improving livelihood opportunities for local families. Seasonal tanks in Karagahawala play a vital role in sustaining inland fisheries, especially during dry periods, and the introduction of healthy fingerlings is expected to boost future harvests.

Volunteers and local stakeholders highlighted the importance of community participation for the long-term success of the project. The activity reflects a broader effort to strengthen food security, promote sustainable resource management, and support economic resilience in Hambantota District.
