A capacity-building session on mapping potential farm products and value chains was held on 5th December 2025 at the Barawakubuka Church, Hambantota, under the ongoing Food Security Project.
The program brought together selected Community-Based Organization (CBO) members, representing five groups from the Barawakubuka area. The training aimed to strengthen community knowledge on identifying viable agricultural products and understanding their market pathways.
The session was conducted by Mr. Priyantha Abeykoon, an expert from the Agricultural Department, Embilipitiya, who provided valuable insights into product selection, value chain steps, market linkages, and opportunities for income enhancement.
Participants engaged in interactive discussions, practical exercises, and group activities designed to help them assess local resources and recognize potential economic opportunities within their communities.
This initiative plays a key role in empowering rural households, improving market access, and supporting long-term food security and livelihood development in the Hambantota district.
