A comprehensive Beekeeping Training Program was conducted on 6th December 2020 in Karagahawala, Hambantota, as part of the ongoing Food Security Project.
The program brought together selected Community-Based Organization (CBO) members, representing five organized groups from the Karagahawala area. The training aimed to strengthen livelihood opportunities, enhance household income, and promote sustainable agricultural practices within the community.
Participants were introduced to modern beekeeping techniques, hive management, honey extraction methods, and the environmental importance of pollinators. Through hands-on demonstrations and expert guidance, the program equipped members with practical knowledge to start and maintain successful beekeeping ventures.
This initiative is expected to contribute significantly to local food security efforts by supporting alternative income sources and encouraging environmentally friendly practices among rural communities.
