Caritas SED Galle too join Caritas Sri Lanka and other DCs in marking 4th anniversary of Easter Sunday terror attacks


All Parishes in the Diocese of Galle too commemorated the Easter Sunday  attack on 21st April 2023  by  candlelight vigils, prayer services, marches and displaying  banners in the three districts of Galle, Matara & Hambantota. Banners were   displayed  in three languages (English, Sinhala and Tamil).

Sri Lanka on April 21 marked the 4th  anniversary of the Easter Sunday terror bombings that shook the island nation on April 21, 2019, even as families of victims marched, and many gathered outside churches, demanding truth and justice.

Three  churches in Sri Lanka and three luxury hotels in the commercial capital, Colombo, were targeted in a series of   terrorist suicide bombings. Later that day, two smaller explosions occurred at a housing complex in Dematagoda and a guest house in Dehiwala.
A total of 269 people were killed, including at least 45 foreign nationals, three police officers, and eight suicide bombers and 1500 were injured.

The church bombings were carried out during Easter services in Negombo, Batticaloa and Colombo; the hotels bombed included the Shangri-La, Cinnamon Grand, Kingsbury  and Tropical Inn.
A  Presidential Commission of Inquiry into the Easter Sunday bombings and a Parliamentary Select Committee were  conducted and a reports  submitted.   However,  the perpetrators involved in this incident have yet to be revealed. ”
