This Van Reeth Memorial Home for Elders has been started in the year 1923 during the time when Rt.Rev Dr Joseph Van Reeth was the 1st Bishop of Diocese of Galle.
Caritas SED Galle staff headed by its Director, Fr Lasanth Fonseka visited the Van Reeth Memorial Home for Elders today (3rd August 2022) and conducted a musical entertainment programme for the elders. Three extremely dedicated Rev Sisters look after around 60 elderly women and men living in this elderly home. The home is kept clean and the elders are well looked after and cared for with so much love.
We conducted this musical entertainment programme with the objective of relieving their stress, anxiety and tension, improve their moods and mental health and overall well-being. Our staff members played instruments and sang songs to entertain the elders. The elders despite their old age, danced and took part in singing too. After the musical programme, Caritas SED Galle provided them refreshments and donated few gifts. This programme was conducted under the project “Promoting a common vision for tolerance and harmony among religions in Sri Lanka –Religious Amity” with the participation of Caritas SED Galle staff, youths and few Inter-religious Forum members.
